American President Donald Trump has named Kalpana Chawla as an American heroine of Indian origin, who dedicates his life in the space program and dreams of millions of boys becoming an astronaut. This trump statement came when he declared May month as 'Asian / American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month'.

The US Congress has also nominated the month of May as 'Asian / American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month'. Kalpana was the first woman of Indian origin to reach space. He was among the seven members of the crew who lost his life in an accident related to Columbia in 2003. This accident happened when Yan was re-entering the Earth's atmosphere.

Trump said, "Indian-American Kalpana Chawla was the first woman of Indian origin who went into space and became a US heroine due to her dedication in various missions to the space shuttle program and international space station."

He said that due to his achievements, Congress posthumously honored him with the Space Medal of Honor, and after his posthumous National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) awarded him NASA Space Flight Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal. Trump said, "Kalpana Chawla's courage and passion became an inspiration for millions of American girls dreaming to become astronauts."
